It must be a strange
feeling to be a West Ham fan. You bring
up some superb talent through the youth
system, nurcher them into full fledged
professionals then sell them on to the
big boys for a nominal fee thus
forfitting any chance of your team ever
competing with the big boys.
If we think
of Rio Ferdinand, Jermaine Defoe,
Frank Lampard, Michael Carrick there is
around £100 million of talent which
falls into that category, and that is
the reason why West Ham are tenth in the
league, neither here nor there.
It seems as if the
Hammers are already planning for next
season, as the side are not really
putting in any performances of note,
with only one win in their last six
Premiership games, and they didn't do
themselves any favours last week against
Man Utd, with Curbishley hinting that
his team wouldn't exactly be going into
the game with 110% commitment.
They now face a Villa
side who have had a great season,
although the question on everybody's
lips will be if this is going to be
captain and instrumental leader Gareth
Barry's last game in charge before he
leaves for Liverpool.
.
The
Villa have had a superb ending to their
season, with Martin O'Neil's side lying in
sixth place and they really do have the
makings of a superb side.
They have only lost once in their last six
games, that coming last week in a shock 2-0
home defeat by Wigan, which really had me
scratching my head as to why O'Neil's team
capitulated after such a good run of form.
Perhaps they knew some transfer news?
Betfair currently price West Ham as 21/10,
the draw is 5/2 and the Villa are the
favourites for the away win at 5/4.
I have to say I was a little shocked at how
easy Wigan overcame Aston Villa last week,
which brings me to believe that they
shouldn't really be 5/4 favourites for this
match.
Although West Ham have only one Premiership
win in their last six, the team is quite
strong at Upton Park recently, with only
only one defeat in their last three, and
scoring goals doesn't really seem to be a
problem in front of their own fans, with
four in their last two.
Betfair offer a
free £25 bet on this game
and I really like the Over 2.5 goals @ 1.9.
Villa are having a superb season so far
with a whole wealth of attacking options
available to them, with Ashley Young, Gabby
Agbonlahor, who is only one goal off
becoming joint top English goalscorer in the
Premiership, and of course John Carew.
Also this is Olof Mellberg's last game
before his summer move to Juventus, and I'm
sure we will see both sides coming out to
attack, with Curbishley wanting to give the
home fans some reason to be optimistic for
next season.
Villa have scored eight goals in their
last two away trips, and I can see a
cracking end of season game at Upton park
with plenty of goals.
