At this point in the
season it could be said that some
players sit back on their £100k a week
wages and wonder where they will to jet for their summer holidays, and at
the moment it seems some of Spurs's
players are thinking just that as they
struggle for any sort of consistency in
the Premiership since they won the
Carling Cup and were then knocked out of
the UEFA Cup to PSV.
One thing that we can
say is that at the moment Spurs are
having no trouble finding the net,
scoring 11 goals in their last four,
although they left it late in the their
last game, when Darren Bent came off the
bench to add some spark to a lifeless
Tottenham attack and inspire his team to
a 2-0 home win over Portsmouth. White
Hart Lane has become something of a
fortress recently, with Juande Ramos's
side winning seven of their last nine
games at home in the Premiership, and
they currently find themselves in
Premiership limbo in eleventh place.
They now face a Newcastle side that have
surprised everyone - they finally won a
game under Kevin Keegan!
Well,
you could almost hear the sighs of relief
from Tyneside last Saturday as Keegan's side
finally overwhelmed Fulham last week to
secure a 2-0 home win. That win will have
done wonders for the teams confidence, and
it now looks that the Toon will be safe and
will spend another year in the Premier
League.
What will have been pleasing for the
Geordie manager is the perfomances of front
pair Michael Owen and Mark Viduka, who each
chipped in with a goal apiece, and I'm sure
Keegan will want them to continue their
short run of form with a good performance
against Tottenham.
The bookies have made Tottenham 4/6
favourites for the home win, while the draw
is 12/5 and the win 4/1.
Bet365 offer a
free £100
bet on this game and I'm sorry for
Newcastle fans but I cant bet against
Tottenham today, and the 4/6 is just big
enough to take a chunk.
Although Newcastle
won last week we must take into account the
opposition, and the result does not really
paper over the cracks. Going forward they
were definitely a threat with three up front
against Fulham last week, but I'm expecting Woodgate, Dawson and King to be much more
commanding.
Defensively, the stats do not
lie, with Newcastle conceding eleven goals
in their last four away. It all depends on
whether Spurs have enough fight for this
game, as Newcastle will come out all
guns blazing but I think in all honesty a
visit to White Hart Lane may have come a
little too soon for Keegan's men.
If they could play Fulham every week I'm
sure Keegan would be a very happy manager,
but in reality Spurs are more than a few
levels above in terms of quality.
