Portsmouth had something
of a blip last week as they succumbed to
a 3-1 away defeat at the hands of Man
City, but that does not disguise the superb
season Harry Redknapp and his boys have
had.
Apart from last week's game, which
we can forget as a one off, Pompey on
the whole have been superb, with David
James, Sylvain Distin, Glen Johnson and
Sol Campbell forming one of the best
defensive units in the whole the
Premiership. If we add the goals of
Jermaine Defoe into the mix, it makes
for an extremely dangerous and
formidable team.
Due to this, Pompey
find themselves in the great position of
seventh place in a UEFA Cup spot, however
they face a Blackburn side today who
themselves are pushing for a UEFA spot
and will be doing everything to catch up
with them.
.
Blackburn
are themselves playing superbly well at the
moment, although they are struggling
somewhat to turn those good performances
into wins. Blackburn have once in their last
five Premiership outings, but they have also
drawn three of these. They can count on the
excellent form of Roque Santa Cruz up front,
who has taken over the Benny MacCarthy
mantle it seems as the teams leading
goalscorer.
The bookmakers make Harry Redknapp's
Portsmouth as favourites at 6/5 while the
draw is 11/5 and Blackburn 13/5.
This should be an excellent game as both
these teams are fighting for pole position
for the UEFA Cup places, although Pompey do
hold all the aces coming into this game.
Their home form is pretty good, with three
wins in their last four games, while
Blackburn are not known as the best of
travellers, with only one win in their last
four, and last week they were awful away to
Liverpool. If we throw in another 2-1 away defeat at West Ham and only a 0-0 draw at
lowly Reading, the signs do point to the
home side.

and Portsmouth @ 6/5 are the choice.
This is a must win game for both sides,
but with Pompey flying and with Fratton Park
jumping, I'm expecting them to deliver the
goods today.
I'm also having a little dabble on the
1-1 @ 6/1, as with Roque Cruz Blackburn can
always pinch the odd goal away from home.
