Both these sides come
into this game full of optimism for next
year, and with Chelsea still battling
for the Premiership title and a visit to
the Champions League final, and
Newcastle finding their feet again under
Kevin Keegan this should be a cracking
game.
Keegan has really turned things
round for his side, after at one point
thinking he may get the boot after a
disastrous run of losses, but the curly
performed wonder has really got his side
firing again, with only one loss in
their last eight games and three wins on
the bounce at St James. The signs are
good for the Toon, as the front three of
Martins, Owen and Viduka really look
like they are forming a good
understanding, and even better is that
they have only conceded three goals in
their last six Premiership matches.
What's for certain however, is that they
will be put under severe pressure with
the visit of Chelsea.
.
Its
been a superb couple of weeks for Chelsea,
with a 2-1 home win over Man Utd and more
importantly reaching the Champions League
Final, where we really saw the true emotions
of what winning that game meant to the
players.
The togetherness of the side has
been questioned recently, but the team
really dug deep last Wednesday and the
players actually looked like they do get on!
I'm not sure Michael Ballack will be
inviting Drogba round for a few games on his
Xbox but that win will certainly have
brought the team together. The Blues are
literally storming up the league, with an
unbeaten run stretching back to December,
and they have won six of their last eight
games.
Newcastle are currently trading at around
6.8 on Betfair, with the draw 4.3 and the
Chelsea away win 1.59.
I really do think that Chelsea are
playing some great stuff at the moment, as
their unbeaten run shows, but we cannot
under estimate the performance of Keegan and
his Newcastle side. I'm not convinced they
can win the game against a Chelsea side
going all out for the win, but with a
handicap start I'm prepared to back them.
Betfair offer a
free £25 bet on this game and
Newcastle +1 on the asian handicap at 1.91
is the bet for me.
Newcastle are no mugs at the moment, and
the 1.59 on a Chelsea win looks way too
short for me. With a battling midfield of
Nicky Butt, Geremi and Joey Barton Newcastle
will be fiercely combatitive in midfield,
and I have a feeling they could derail
Chelsea's charge for trophies. I also have a
feeling that certain players will want to
keep themselves fit for the trip to Moscow,
and even though the title is on the line,
will they want to risk injury?
Well done to Avram Grant and Chelsea on
Wednesday. But do not underestimate the
curly permed wonder!
