Well, it was something
of a no contest last week as Man Utd
proved their doubters wrong, including
myself, to romp to a 3-0 home win over
fellow challengers Liverpool. I have to
admit that I'm sure the result would
have been different if Liverpool
midfielder Javier Mascherano had not
been sent off during the first half by
referee Keith Hackett.
What this all
means is that Utd now have a five point
lead over second placed Chelsea, and now
look unstoppable as they charge towards
the finishing line. This is mainly due
to their recent form which has seen the
Red Devils win five league games on the
bounce, and seen them concede only one
goal in those games.
They now face a
Villa side who will be disappointed with
their recent form, which has tailed off,
and it now seems they will have to
settle for a UEFA Cup spot.
It
must be very disappointing for Villa fans as
at one point it looked like they would be up
there challenging for a Champions League
spot.
Instead, they find themselves in
seventh place and come into this game on the
back of a shock 1-0 home defeat by Roy
Keane's Sunderland side, which will really
have knocked the stuffing out of them. What
will worry boss Martin O'Neil is the fact
that the Villa have only won two out of
their last eight games, and away from home
they are struggling with only a 2-1 away win
at Reading of any note in their last four
away trips.
Not surprisingly, the bookies have priced
the Man Utd home win up as 1/3, while the
draw is 9/2 and the Aston Villa away win is
a whopping 11/1.
Of course Man Utd are going to be very
tough to bet against coming into this game.
I've been very disappointed with Villa
recently, their form has really dipped and
the fans actually turned on Martin O'Neil on
the final whistle last week. Utd will see
this as a must win game, and in all honesty,
Villa have shown nothing in the last few
weeks to show any signs that they can cause
an upset today.
Bet365 offer a
free £100
bet on this game and will
give you evens for Man Utd to win by two
goals or more. At this present moment in
time, this looks like a great bet, as Man Utd have won by this margin in four of their
last five matches, while Villa's once rock
solid defence is looking a little brittle
due to the continued absence of Olaf
Mellberg.
