Liverpool will still be
coming to terms with their Champions
League semi final loss to Chelsea on
Wednesday night, but I think they can be
proud of their performance, taking
Chelsea to extra time and just missing
out 3-2.
They now return to Anfield to
lick their wounds in their final home
game of the season. The match itself has
no real baring on the league positions,
with Liverpool guaranteed fourth spot in
the Premiership, and the Reds will
probably want to put on a show for their
fans for their superb support this
season.
Their home form has been
exceptional of late, with seven wins on
the bounce at Anfield, and they will be
hoping for much of the same as they host
a Man City side with all sorts of
problems on the field and off.
.
If
we went back to Christmas and said that Sven
would be having the sack come the end of the
season, I'd probably turn round and ask you
what you were drinking, as City were flying
in the Premiership and there was real
optimism and hope for the new reign of Sven
Goran Eriksson.
Fast forward five months and
City are in disarray, with rumours that Sven
will be sacked at the end of the season,
mainly due to an awful slump in form, which
has seen them slip down the table to ninth
place. They have picked up a little
recently, winning two out of their
last three games, however their confidence
will have taken a huge knock after losing to
Fulham 3-2 last week after taking a two goal lead.
Betfair make Liverpool 1.75 (8/11)
favourites, while the draw is 4.0 (3/1) and
the Man City away win is 5.6 (9/2).
Betfair offer a
free £25 bet on this game
and at 1.75 a Liverpool home win has to be
the call.
To be honest I was expecting the odds to
be a little shorter than 1.75, and it does
remain to be seen how Liverpool will react
to their Champions League defeat, but I do
feel Liverpool are strong enough to secure
another home win today. Since the injury to
key defender Richard Dunne, City have looked
poor at the back and with all the off field
problems, I don't think a trip to face a
Liverpool side with seven home wins on the
bounce is the best cure for an under
pressure manager.
Where will Sven be next season? Who
knows, but Thaksin Shinawatra will be making
the phone call sooner rather than later
after this game.
