It really is edge of the
seat stuff for Fulham and Birmingham
fans this week as both these sides are
battling and fighting for their
Premiership lives. While others dream of
Champions League finals and FA Cup
finals, these two will be slugging it
out in an absolutely HUGE game at the
basement.
Fulham are now only two
points behind Birmingham and only three
points behind Reading, who occupy the
the coveted safety of 17th place in the
Premiership. It was hard not to be
impressed last week by a Fulham side who
were two down at Man City and came back
to win 2-3.
That unbelievable result
has really put the Cottages in with a
fighting chance, and I had to raise a
chuckle at the state of Roy Hodgeson at
the end of that match, he looked like
he'd definitely been through the mill!
Birmingham themselves will be scrapping
for everything, as they themselves are
in the relegation drop zone, only one
point behind Reading on 17th and only
two in front of Fulham.
.
Birmingham
boss Alex McCleish has also managed to get
his team playing some good football, and
they will be kicking themselves for letting
a 2-0 lead go against Liverpool last week,
and only managing a 2-2 stalemate. What will
be worrying is that Birmingham simply cannot
seem to win games, with only one victory in
their last eight Premiership encounters, and
that is not really good enough.
Betfair price Fulham as favourites at 2.3
(5/4), while the draw is 3.4 (12/5) and the
Birmingham away win is 3.5 (5/2)
For some reason I have a sneaky feeling
that Fulham could just somehow find a way
out of relegation trouble . For me they do
seem like a team with alot of spirit, no
doubt led by Jimmy Bullard in midfield, and
they have experienced players such as Danny
Murphy and Simon Davies who can definitely
influence some of the younger players. The
way they came back and defeated Man City
last week was an inspiration.
That was actually their second win in
their last three, and if we look at
Birmingham's form with four away defeats on
the bounce and only one win in eight, Fulham
do look edging this one today.
Betfair offer a
free £25 bet on this game
and at 2.3 (5/4) Fulham have to be the bet
today.
I'm sure this game could go either way,
but Fulham do look like giving this a good
fight, while Birmingham have offered nothing
recently to suggest they can actually win a
game. With 13 goals shipped in their last
four away appearances Diomansy Kamara and
Brian McBride will be looking to add to
their tally, while Fulham boss Roy Hodgson
will probably be looking for the valium.
Fulham to survive?
