Whatever the outcome of
this game, I am hoping Gabby Agbonlahor
scores as I backed him to be top English
goalscorer at 22/1 on Betfair. He's only
one goal behind Rooney and Defoe ant the
moment on 11, so fingers crossed.
It really has been a
great end to the Premiership season for
Martin O' Neil's Aston Villa side. Not
only are they in with a great chance of
UEFA Cup football next season, but
every fan must be optimistic for next
season, as it seems O'Neil has really
put together a team capable of beating
anyone on their day.
I was just thinking back
to the awful times
under David O'Leary, with the terrible
problems they used to have in front of
goal, but the signings of Ashley Young
and John Carew last summer have really
inspired the side, with an amazing 17
goals scored in their last four games.
That's an average of over 4 goals scored
a game!
Fair play to O'Neil, he has
given Young a free roll in midfield, and
that has seen the young star emerge as a
strong England candidate, and he really
is a a threat at the moment. They now
face Steve Bruce's Wigan side, who we
must add are also on something of a
roll, with only one defeat in their last
five.
.
Steve
Bruce has in all honesty done a superb job
since he arrived at the JJB on a monster pay
packet. The side were once relegation
candidates but now find themselves on 37
points, which surely must be enough to keep
them up. One thing to keep in mind is that
they are not mathematically up yet, and they
do face a visit from Man Utd in the final
game of the season, so I'm sure they will be
looking for a result today.
Betfair currently price Villa as 4/7 for the
home win, the Wigan away win is 13/2
while the draw is 3/1.
There is going to be something of a relaxed
atmosphere at Villa Park today, although I
have a feeling that Wigan will be really
targeting this game as they need a point to
be absolutely sure of Premiership football
next season, and with Man Utd waiting in the
wings, I'm sure Steve Bruce will be anxious
for a point today.
Although Villa are on a high at the moment,
Wigan are no mugs away from the JJB, with a
notable 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge against
Chelsea in recent weeks.
Betfair offer a
free £25 bet on this game
and I really like Wigan +1 on the asian
handicap at 1.9.
Villa are having a superb season so far,
but I just feel Wigan can be something like
a fly in the ointment today. With only two
goals conceded in their last four games, the
Latics can surprise a few people with the
help of the asian handicap, and lets not
forget that Villa's big wins recently came
over Bolton and Birmingham, who I feel are a
much poorer sides than Wigan.
A point for Wigan and Steve Bruce to give
the the Premiership trophy to Man Utd next
week anyone? © Free-Bets.uk 2008
