Chelsea come into this
return leg at Stamford Bridge full of
confidence after securing a 2-1 home win
over Man Utd, which really gives them an
outside chance in the title race, and of
course they were gifted a 1-1 draw at
Anfield by John Arne Riise's last minute
howler.
Things really are looking up for Avram Grant and his side, although there
are strong rumours that only a Champions
League win will save the managers job,
which is disappointing, considering the
effort he and his side have put in over the
last few months.
They will be further
boosted by the return of Frank Lampard
in midfield, who missed Chelsea's last
game due to the sad death of his mother.
This game is really the only thing
Liverpool have to play for this season,
and with Torres and Gerrard rested for
the game at Birmingham last week
Liverpool will really be going into this
with 110% commitment.
.
Although
Chelsea did secure a 1-1 draw at Anfield I
did feel that Liverpool created the better
chances, and Fernando Torres really should
have scored, only a fine save from Cech
keeping him out, and I have a feeling
Chelsea may have trouble in sustaining the
impressive performance against Man Utd on
the weekend. There were also signs that the
team do not look as together as one would
expect, with Michael Ballack blatantly
ignoring Drogba's constant moaning, and I do
feel that with Liverpool you get a team
pulling together as one.
The bookmakers make Chelsea favourites to
qualify @ 1/2, while Liverpool are 13/8
shots.
This game is really going to be a another
high pressure, highly intense affair and I
do fancy Liverpool to edge out Chelsea
today. What is disappointing for the Blues
is the lack of goals the front players have
scored with Anelka, Drogba, Kalou and
Shevchenko virtually anonymous during recent
weeks, and in Fernando Torres Liverpool
really do have a match winner.
Of course Steven Gerrard has chipped in
with six Champions League goals already this
term and he will also have to have a big
game. 1/2 is a little too short for me to
take on Chelsea, and I feel Saturday's huge
game with Man Utd may have taken a little
out of them, both physically and mentally.
Bet365 offer a
free £100 bet on this game
and Liverpool to qualify @ 13/8 is the call.
