Its another huge week of
Champions League Football as Man Utd
welcome Barcelona to Old Trafford for
the second leg of this semi final
matchup, with the first leg at the Nou
Camp ending goaless.
Utd have not had the
best of build ups to this game, with a
colossal defeat to Chelsea 2-1 on the
weekend, followed by injuries to key
defender Vidic and Wayne Rooney, which
would be big blows to Fergie's men.
If
we throw in a 'warm down' incident after
their defeat at Chelsea then things
really haven't gone the best of ways
over the last few days. Of course Utd
are still on course for the Premiership
title, and only an almighty shock would
see Chelsea lifting the title, but
stranger things have happened.
Barcelona
conceded the title to Real Madrid on the
weekend, fielding a weakened side as
they were defeated 2-0 away to Deportivo,
and so in reality their whole season is
resting on this game.
.
I
have a feeling that a Champions League Final
is the only thing which can save Frank
Rijkaard's Nou Camp future at the moment,
however I was pleasantly surprised by
Barcelona's battling performance
against a Utd side in top form, and with
Ronaldo missing an early penalty the Catalan
giants are still very much in this tie. From
a fixed odds point of view, Utd are
favourites at evens, while the draw is 9/4
and the Barcelona away win is 3/1.
This is a strange one to call, my initial
feelings were that Utd would be priced up as
around 4/6 for the home win, which I was
going to oppose.
Bet365 offer a
free £100 bet on this game
however, and at evens Utd simply have to be
backed.
Fergie signalled his priorities by
fielding a weakened side against Chelsea
last week, and even though they have a few
injury problems, at evens Utd have to be
snapped up.
There is no doubt that Messi
will cause big problems for Utd as he really
was Barca's best player last week, and of
course Thierry Henry can always have a
moment of genius, and lets remember, he is
returning to the theatre where he had so
many duels with Utd at Arsenal. I'm sure he
will relish a return to England, as he has
indicated in the press, and I'm also taking
some of the 5/2 available on the Frenchman
to score anytime.
This is going to be a colossal
encounter, but I just feel United's home
form is just too good, and at evens there is
significant value on the home team.
Utd to do the double?
They'll be a step nearer come 9.45pm
