They will miss Rosicky in midfield but Cech’s arguably the best stopper in the tournament and Jan Koller is a handful up front. Unlikely to go all the way, but may well qualify for the last 8.
Portugal (7/1) - Portugal have on paper, a group from which they would expect to qualify. Widely fancied, if they get it right, they have the pace and skill in their side to frighten anyone, particularly with Deco pulling the strings from midfield. Everybody knows about Ronaldo, but that doesn’t mean anyone will be able to stop him.
Switzerland (22/1) - The joint-hosts will consider the tournament a success if they get through their group. Stubborn at the back- they didn’t concede in the World Cup last year- they will be difficult to break down but will need Alex Frei to really fire if they are to make an impression.
Turkey (33/1) - Despite not having an abundance of household names the inconsistent Turks are capable of brilliance. They score a lot of goals from midfield, with ‘Boro’s Tuncay causing trouble, feeding off the experienced Nihat up-top. Will fancy their chances of getting through the group and may be worth a nibble at 15/8 to do so.

Claim your free £200 here!Austria (125/1) - The other joint-hosts are the tournament rags and nothing is expected of them. Having said that, nothing was expected of South Korea when they hosted the World Cup and they ended up in the semi-finals...
Croatia (12/1) - Having knocked England out on merit the Croats are many people’s dark horses for the tournament. They should qualify for the last 8 (1/2) but without Eduardo they may struggle to put the ball in the back of the net enough times to go all the way.
Germany (4/1) - Worthy tournament favourites Germany just can’t be ruled out. The ’96 winners have the high-profile pedigree, they know how to win matches and are, as usual, in a straightforward-looking group. Captain Marvel Ballack is in rare form and will take Germany’s penalties, and is worth a sniff for the Golden Boot at 25/1.
Poland (33/1) - It’s unlikely the Poles have the strength in depth to trouble the big sides and the game with Austria will probably be for Group B’s wooden spoon. Boruc is a fine ‘keeper, and he will be a busy one.
GROUP C BETTING
Bet365 offer a
free £200 bet on
any Euro 2008 game this week.
Claim your free £200 here!France (8/1) - France are always a danger and have an ideal blend of youth and experience. Thuram, Gallas, Makelele and Henry have set that standard that the likes of Ribery and Benzema will be trying to emulate. Don’t be surprised to see the French going one better than their 2nd place in the World Cup.
Italy (6/1) - The Group of Death begins with the World Champions, still reeling after the news that they will be without skipper Fabio Cannavaro. They still have a tremendous squad and if they can get through the group, they will fancy themselves to go all the way.
Netherlands (12/1) - Van Basten has got Holland playing some lovely stuff of late and with their lightning midfield and goals coming from everywhere they are going to be difficult to stop. Whether or not their plethora of stars can combine to see off their Group C counterparts, it’s sure to make fascinating viewing.
Romania (28/1) - The Czechs are by no means the side they once were but have enough quality in their team to trouble anyone. They will miss Rosicky in midfield but Cech’s arguably the best stopper in the tournament and Jan Koller is a handful up front. Unlikely to go all the way, but may well qualify for the last 8.
Greece (20/1) - The reigning champions will do incredibly well to defend their crown. A tight unit, they can’t be discounted but are up against it this time out. Hard to see them seeing off Russia in what is a very competitive group.
Russia (28/1) - Russia simply have to be backed at 5/4 to qualify from this group. They beat England to the tournament on merit and have one of the best coaches on the planet in Guus Hiddink. Well-organised, efficient and confident, the Russians are an excellent outside bet at 28/1.
Spain (11/2) - Spain are our odds-compilers fancy this year. With a spine of Casillas, Puyol, Fabregas, Torres and Villa it’s easy to see why. Of course, Spain have failed in the past but they would have to do some serious choking to fail to get out of this group. Impossible to rule them out.
Sweden (33/1) - It’s hard to see Sweden doing a lot this year, particularly as they don’t have England to take points off. They have a fight on their hands to progress, but with Ibrahimovic in their side anything could happen (if he turns up).
