Chelsea v Liverpool Champions League Second Leg

Well its the return leg at Stamford Bridge with Chelsea holding all the aces going into the game after picking up a 1-1 draw at Anfield. We feel however, that recent exertions by the Blues, especially that huge game with Man Utd last week may have taken something out of Avram Grant's side. Liverpool did look more dangerous in the hoem leg, with better chances, and its hard to pick out any of the Chelsea strikers who are on fire -Drogba, Kalou, Shevchenko Anelka?

What Liverpool have is Fernando Torres, a 30 goal a season striker which Chelsea would kill for, and I feel he could be the big difference tonight. The 13/8 on Liverpool to qualify is certainly value and we will be on.

Good Luck!

Man Utd v Barcelona Part II

Its another HUGE game inthe Champions League on Tuesday as Man Utd take on Barcelona at Old Trafford. The storyline could have been oh so different had Ronaldo not missed his spot kick, and also lets not forget Etoo had a decent shout for a pen. Our main preview can be found here.

We do fancy Man Utd at odds of around evens, any shorter and we would definitley be looking elsewhere for our bets. I do fancy Thierry Henry to make an impact...all the signs coming out of the Nou Camp is that Henry really does have an affection for English Football, and lets not forget the amount of big games he played with Arsenal at Old Trafford in the Premiership. At 5/2 to score anytime I think he may want to make a big impression once again in England, and at those odds I'll have a flutter. A Man Utd home win @ evens is the main bet for this match however.

This is it - The BIG One!

Chelsea v Man Utd full preview here
Well this is the big one we've all been waiting for, Avram Grant has the chance to make up ground on Alex Ferguson's Utd side. We feel that Chelsea have a good chance - although the loss of Frank Lampard is a blow and we're plumping for Chelsea @ 6/4. The Blues have had an extra days rest from the Champions League games and we think this can be the difference.
Tottenham v Bolton full preview here
We really like the way Bolton are fighting for their Premiership survival, and we've said it before but we'll say it again, Spurs already look like they are waiting for the holiday season and with only one win in their last seven in the Premiership, a visit from a battling Bolton side desperate for points is not really what Tottenham would want. Bolton +0.75 @ 8/11 is the call.
Birmingham v Liverpool full preview here
The last gasp own goal will have been a bitter pill to swallow for Liverpool and with many players being rested for this game we feel Birmingham have a great chance to secure the three points. The Blues are no mugs at St Andrews, beating Tottenham and Man City in recent weeks and with a goal headstart +1 @ 4/7 this really looks the call.
Man City v Fulham full preview here
Fulham were awful against Liverpool last week, going down 2-0 at home to their reserve team, and with City winning 3-1 over Portsmouth last week and in search of a UEFA Cup spot, this could well be the weekend that Fulham say goodbye to the Premiership. City @ 10/11 looks a great bet.
Everton v Aston Villa full preview here
We can't say enough good things about Aston Villa at the moment. They were superb last week, destroying Birmingham 5-1 and with 15 goals scored in their last three games, they really can take advantage of an Everton side struggling to score goals. Villa to continue their fine form @ 9/4. Correct score saver 1-1 @ 6/1.
Portsmouth v Blackburn full preview here
This really is a UEFA Cup shoot out, but we feel Harry Redknapp's Portsmouth should just have the edge over Blackburn. Pompeys home form has been superb recently, with three wins out of four, while Blackburn were awful last week at Anfield, and their away form is patchy to say the least. Portsmouth to nick it @ 6/4.
Deportivo v Barcelona full preview here
Barcelona have all but conceded the league to Real Madrid and with a huge return leg at Old Trafford to look forward to, they will be resting the likes of Henry and Messi for this game. They really do look vulnerable agasint a Deportivo side who have won four games on the bounce in La Liga, and of course Barcelona are awful domestically at the moment, with only one win in eight. The home side look a great bet @ 15/8.
Real Madrid v Athletic Bilbao full preview here
The party can start at the Bernabeu this Sunday as Real have all but wrapped up the league. Athletic Bilbao will not give up without a fight and we feel there should be goals in this one. 3 of the last 4 Real home games have ended over 2.5 and @ 8/11 this has to be the call today.

Ronaldo steps up...NOOOOOOO!!!!!

Well, it was a pretty eventful week for us betting wise. We predicted rightfully that Liverpool should win at 7/5, and it was only a disastrous own goal by John Arne Riise in the 95th minute that spoilt it for the fixed odds backers. Luckily for us and I hope you, you all managed to lay off Liverpool at around 1.04 and see a healthy profit. Read our Liverpool Chelsea thoughts here

As for Man Utd, we were on big on the away win at a mightily impressive 2/1. And when Ronaldo stepped up to take a penalty I did think the money was in the bag. I guess we can't rely on the Portugese wonder kid every time even though Utd should have been awarded a penalty later on. I think Utd should be good enough for the second leg, and I would really like to see a Liverpool - Man Utd final.

On to the weekend, and there's still a HUGE scope for betting, with Chelsea facing Fergie's men in the final 'Battle For the Premiership', and I for one think that Chelsea could do it. It is a big ask for Avram Grant's men, but if they do manage a win what about the Utd trip to Wigan in the final game of the season? The Latics have been playing really well of late but can they grind out a draw? Well this is all if's buts, roundabouts, missed penalties and pies, but once things for certain you can read all our opinions on the weekend betting action at our main site http://www.free-bets.co.uk/.

Now its time for an afternoon coffee.

We will be back tomorrow to have offer our final thoughts. Stay tuned folks!

Champions League Semi Finals are here!

Well I for one am just about getting over Portsmouth's dismal display against Man City yesterday. Defensively, they had 'one of those days' and Sol Campbell had a nightmare. Anyways no matter, as its the Champions League this week as you know and there's a whole host of betting out there. Barcelona look all at sea and at odds of 2/1 Man Utd have to be the call. The press are building this up as the Ronaldo v Messi show, however although Messi is back for the Catalan giants he's been out for so long, while Ronaldo has been very consistent this season. I cant really see Barcelona troubling a Utd side brimming with confidence, and at those odds of 2/1 I think the Red Devils are great value. Read our full free bets preview here

Elsewhere, Liverpool face Premiership counterparts Chelsea. Frank Lampard is back for Chelski as well as Liverpool's Steven Gerrard, in what promises to be an exciting encounter. Liverpool at 7/5 are the bet for me as their Anfield form has been superb recently. We also like the 9/4 available on Gerrard to score anytime. The midfield maestro has already scored six goals in the Champions League and in front of his adoring fans he is well worth a punt and those attractive odds. The Liverpool skipper always seems to rise to the challenge in the big matches. Read our full preview here.

Portsmouth at 9/4? Yes thankyou!

Its going to be a cracking weekend of sporting action coming up. Not only have we a bumper football coupon, but also Calzaghe v Hopkins and the start of the 2008 World Snooker Championships. Joe Calzaghe has met every challenge put in front of him so far as a professional boxer, but this could be his toughest test yet. Hopkins is an experienced and wily old pro, who can push him to the limit. It promises to be a great fight and if he wins maybe Calzaghe will end a great career at the top. Fingers crossed!

I hope we have dug out some good free bets and analysis for you, and I reckon the one bet that stands out is Portsmouth at 9/4 to beat Man City away. That has to be the bet of the weekend for me and I for one will be lumping on with a view to trade out. Anyways good luck for the weekend everybody!

The rise and fall of the club mascot

We all love our mascots, hell I remember when our club mascot Cyril the Swan was dropped in via helecopter onto the hallowed Vetch Field pitch. Our first impressions were one of shock, more of a 'what or WHO the friggin hell is that??' Anyways we soon grew to love our beloved mascot, although things dont always go to plan for our furried friends. Which is why I had to share this funny video. I for one will be raising a pint of guiness in respect to all club mascots come 5pm tomorrow. Just not the Cardiff one. I hope you can find it in your hearts to do the same.

Rio the Love Doctor

It seems that Manchester Utd is a bit of a casanova when it comes to women - as this ad shows. I wonder how many players who have captained their country have appeared in an ad such as this? Oliver Kahn perhaps?

Oh William Gallas!

Man Utd took a huge step towards another premiership title on Sunday, with a crucial 2-1 win over Arsenal at Old Trafford. I watched the game and thought Arsenal were very unlucky, they played much the better football for the majority of the 90 minutes. I'm very disappointed in the performance of William Gallas for Arsenal - he gave away the penalty for Utd's first goal and as far as leading by example, he was well below par. Arsen Wenger really needs to have a word with his captain, and perhaps make some big decisions for next season.

We win big on Fenerbache!

We dont like to blow our own trumpet here at Free-Bets towers but we feel our tipsters did an excellent job on Wednesday night by picking Fenerbahce to win at 3/1.

"Whether they will progress to the next round is another matter, however at 3/1 the value is certainly with the home side and I for one will be wading it with a considerable chunk"

I for one will be having a celebratory Guiness. Stay tuned folks for some more quality tipping!
